A Software Update that increases the driving range has been issued by Tesla as good will for the customers to escape Irma Hurricane

The update is viewed as a sign of great will by Tesla to increase its cars range to flee southern Florida as the state plans for the most powerful Atlantic hurricane to hit its banks in nearly a decade.

Reports of Tesla Model S 60 buyers living in the way of Hurricane Irma who got a sudden boost in battery range first surfaced on Reddit. “I’m in South Florida and I own an MS60. I just viewed my app and look what it says. I’ve never more been higher than 215 miles. Did Tesla do this for evacuations?” asked Redditor Ludachris9000.

Similar stories soon developed across the Tesla Motors Club, with one Tesla buyer confirming that the battery scale upgrade was issued to all Tesla owners with an upgradeable 60 kWh battery, and existing in Hurricane Irma’s evacuation zone in Florida, to 75 kWh. The update adds extra 40 miles of driving range.

“I checked it was delivered to any 60s in the evacuation zones. I was said it will be lifted on September 16,” said News.

News reached out to Tesla for evidence after hearing wide reports of related stories being reported by owners. A Tesla spokesperson verifies that an over-the-air software update was in fact begun to improve driving range for buyers that may be affected by Hurricane Irma.

As nearly 5.6 million individuals or more than one-quarter of the state’s residents has been asked to vacate ahead of Hurricane Irma making landfall, long blocks at gas stations have put more pressure on fuel supply than early storms of the past, dropping many stations empty and drivers stranded. The hoarding of gas has prompted Governor Rick Scott to ask evacuees to take only as much gas as needed.
