Beware of Buying a Hacked Memory Stick

hacked memory sticks

Beware of hacked memory sticks. A while ago I noticed that a popular online bidding website was offering memory sticks with 128GB storage or more for a super cheap price!.

Being the bargain hunter I am I jumped on the chance to get my hands on one of these.. However when recieving the USB stick I noticed that the device would become corrupt after loading over 4 GB total capacity… This is strange I thought. Upon further investigation it would seem that the USB sticks had been hacked to portray a higher memory capacity than it really had. In reality the USB stick was only 4GB even though it would display that it was 128GB when plugged into my laptop.

If you buy a memory stick or SD card that seems to cheap then you can check that the memory capacity is real by using this software called h2testw which can be downloaded from the following URL: http://www.heise.de/download/h2testw.html

Make sure that you don’t buy a hacked memory stick, remember if it seems too good to be true… it probably is.
