Turn Your Phone into A Wand Using Google Assistant’s Voice Commands

The new Google Assistant that powers search on Pixel devices and Google Home has a lot more personality than regular old Google Search. It gets to know you, it’s conversational, and it even has some fun Easter eggs hiding within—and now, Assistant has a few magic tricks up its sleeve.

With the new Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them due out in theaters on November 18, Google Assistant has added a few Hogwarts-style voice commands that let you control your Android device like magic. To try them out, just say “OK Google,” then cast the following spells:

  • Lumos – Turns on your phone’s flashlight
  • Nox – Turns the flashlight off
  • Silencio – Mutes ringtones & notifications

These commands straight out of J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World will even work if you’re running an older device that uses Google Now instead of Assistant, so almost anyone can get in on the fun. However, if you’d like to get the full effect, check out our guide on getting the new Google Assistant working on other Android devices:
