Sony Music Entertainment has issued an apology after a hack on its Twitter account led to the company falsely reporting the death of Britney Spears.
The tweets, which have since been deleted, read “RIP @britneyspears #RIPBritney 1981-2016,” according to USA Today. Sony said the issue has now been resolved and in a statement offered an apology to the singer.
“Sony Music apologizes to Britney Spears and her fans for any confusion. This has been rectified.”
The hack on the account comes two years after a major attack on Sony Pictures, which initially led the Hollywood studio to cancel the release of The Interview, a comedy involving a plot to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Personal details and emails about some of the world’s biggest film starts were exposed during the hack.
