TCHead – A Tool to Crack TrueCrypt Passwords

We know that TrueCrypt is outdated. You will have a hard time finding someone who uses TrueCrypt these days. But if you manage to find someone who is still using TrueCrypt, then the TCHead tool will definitely come in handy for you. Today we will see how to use it and where to download it.

What is TrueCrypt?

TrueCrypt is a discontinued freeware utility used for On-The-Fly Encryption (OTFE). It can create a virtual encrypted disk inside a file or encrypt a partition or even entire storage of a device (pre-boot authentication).

What is TCHead?

TCHead is a simple tool which decrypts and verifies the TrueCrypt headers. It also is used to brute force the password using a wordlist. Don’t expect a good performance from this tool in cracking passwords because this is nowhere near as good as a professional cracking tool and the cracking process is slower due to the fact that the TrueCrypt saves keys for testing internally using a Password-Based Key Derivation Function 2 (PBKDF2). This is designed specifically to slow down the brute-force attacks.
