HSBC Bank new voice recognition security system was fooled!

A BBC Click reporter Dan Simmons set up an HSBC account and signed up for the new voice ID authentication service. The bank said that the system is secure because each person has its “unique” voice.

The bank system let Dan’ non-identical twin, Joe, access the bank account through the phone after he emulated Dan Simmons ‘s voice.

“What’s really alarming is that the bank allowed me seven attempts to mimic my brother’s voiceprint and get it wrong, before I got in at the eighth time of trying,” Joe said.

HSBC Bank developed the voice recognition system to let the customers access their accounts by saying “My voice is my password” after entering their personal details. They need to record their voice until the system recognises it with the original recording.

According to the HSBC Bank about the new system, the voice recognition technology is supposedly the safest way to the bank and secure customers from breaches.
HSBC officials said that they will work the system to make it more secure and will allow customers only three attempts to enter the correct voiceprint.

HSBC said: “The security and safety of our customers’ accounts are of the utmost importance to us. Voice ID is a very secure method of authenticating customers.”
