Spotify has crossed 60 Million subscribers and became twice as big as Apple Music

Compared to its biggest competition, that’s double Apples Music’s 27 million subscribers.

Spotify refreshed its subscriber data today with the new number. It’s impressively raised by 10 million over the 50 million subscribers the company announced in March.

Last month Spotify declared it held 140 million total users, which involves active users of the freemium plan. Apple Music does not have a similar free tier, so, any way you slice it, Spotify is still outnumbering the iTunes replacement by a lot of customers.

Spotify last published that it had 30 million premium subscribers in March. It was also the original music streamer to hit 100 million active users total this summer. Tidal, that competing streaming app run by rapper Jay Z, is cooking through cash and yet had simply lured 4.2 million customers by June, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The big increase in acceptance could be due to Spotify’s new Family Programs that rival Apple Music’s rate, providing up to six members access to the app for a total of $15 per month.

Spotify further has a free tier that brings in a lot of new users. Apple Music provides users a three-month free trial pack before charging $10 per month for a customer’s account. Apple’s service has relied massively on music exclusives to boost subscribers, annoying a lot of record labels in the process.
