Your Data Rate will be throttled after 50GB of usage says T-Mobile

The new 50 GB limit is an unusual bump up from the organization’s previous cap of 32 GB which the business has been quick to highlight was previously 10 GB or so larger than most of its competitors. When users in clogged areas hit this 50 GB threshold, their LTE links are deprioritized to last production speeds for the balance of their billing cycle.

In a blog post by T-Mobile CTO Neville Ray stating the move, T-Mobile pets itself on the back for doing more generous than different big wireless carriers, who have a limit of 22 GB AT&T, Verizon or 23 GB Sprint.

“Verizon and AT&T sit at a meager 22GB, indicating Un-carrier consumers can use more than 2x the data before prioritization kicks in,” the organization proclaims. “Now, 50GB of data usage indicates a T-Mobile customer is essentially the top 1% of data users, and to put it in circumstances, you could stream a whole 2 hours of Netflix every single day that’s 30 SD movies and nevermore even reach that point!”

Ray wrote that the reforms will take effect Wednesday of this week aka today. In his post, Ray maintains that what carriers are creating with unlimited data plans should be called “deprioritization,” not “throttling.”

“Often hidden for a “throttle” or “cap,” prioritization is another,” the CTO said. “It doesn’t cap how greatly you can use, and someone would only notice it when TWO things happen: the customer has previously consumed a ton of data in the month 50GB AND they are in a range of the network is that currently encountering congestion.”

“When T-Mobile consumers who use the most data hit these prioritization points through the month, they get in line after other customers who have used fewer data and may encounter reduced speeds,” the CTO explains. “But this affects them only very rarely, like when there is a long line, and it resets every month.”
