50-year-old facebook employee sued the company for Age Discrimination

Gary Glouner, 52, told in his lawsuit that Facebook had a history of getting rid of workers older than 50 and informing them they were a “poor cultural fit” and they “didn’t go fast enough,” according to News. After they were let go, the former workers would be placed with younger ones at Facebook, Glouner stated in his lawsuit listed in Los Angeles Superior Court.

He says he operated under the Facebook umbrella for 2 years, and at that time was the jokes. According to the docs, acquired by News, the age cracks included:

 “Old people shouldn’t be working at Facebook; they just don’t relate”
 “Old people are just creepy”
 “Old people don’t belong at Facebook”

Glouner and Facebook did not reply to requests for comment. According to his LinkedIn profile, Glouner started working in global business expansion and partnerships at Facebook in April 2013. Glouner arrived at Facebook by a circuitous route He worked for WebFives, a social media startup gained by Microsoft in 2007. He worked at Microsoft until 2013, when Facebook acquired the software company’s Atlas online advertising business. Facebook shut down Atlas in 2016.

In 2015, Glouner had a work injury and later a seizure, News reported. He was next told he was not satisfying the expectations of his job while he was on pharmaceutical leave and was fired in November of 2015, City News Service said, citing Glouner’s lawsuit. The recent Facebook manager believes he was victimized because of his age and disability.

Glouner says The CEO himself made public criticisms in 2007 where he said, “Young people are just smarter.” He adds the ageism was institutional because when an HR presentation they presented a chart highlighting the low energy of employees in their 50s.

Worst of all, he tells his co-workers in their 20s and 30s regularly got cake and group celebrations while he got bupkis. Glouner tells his boss told him they didn’t need to embarrass him by highlighting his old age.
