Facebook’s AI is not even as smart as a Rat said by Head of the Department

That was the information of Yann LeCun, the peak of Facebook AI Research, in a conversation with News published on Thursday.

While tendencies can learn some stuff for themselves and beat people at board jokes like Go which has more possible movements than there are particles in the universe, they’re still nowhere near as rational as a baby, or an animal, according to LeCun.

“We’re very far from becoming machines that can learn the most basic notions about the world in the way humans and animals can do,” LeCun reportedly told News.

“Like, yes, in special areas machines have the superhuman achievement, but in terms of general ability we’re not even close to a rat.”

Artificial general intelligence the latest goal for many AI researchers refers to computer systems that possess intelligence similar to that of the human brain.

LeCun highlighted that all of the recent AI findings relating to things like self-driving cars and rendering medical images are examples of “narrow AI,” not “general AI.”

He said: “So for instance, and I don’t want to reduce at all the engineering and research work done on AlphaGo by our friends at DeepMind, but when people interpret the development of AlphaGo as a significant process towards common intelligence, it’s wrong. It just isn’t.”

LeCun also warned reporters not to mislead the public by using Terminator photos in their accounts or over-hyping breakthroughs in the field. “I keep happening this whenever I talk to the public: we’re very far from increasing truly intelligent machines.”
