Google’s Pixel 2 Phones can now be troubleshot with Google Assistant

A user operating Android Oreo 8.1’s developer preview ordered Google Assistant why their phone wasn’t charging fully, and a troubleshooting feature dropped into gear. A battery health check was run and the virtual assistant also looked the phone for apps that might be creating the battery to drain.

Testers tried the feature on a Pixel 2 XL running the Android 8.1 developer preview, but they got related responses using 8.0. This doesn’t work on other Android phones, though. And help for other effects is limited. We asked why our phone was lagging down, and it pointed us to a “more info” link.

Once that was total, the Assistant displayed a choice to connect the user to Google Support via phone or chat. The system looks pretty intuitive, the only minor issue was the Assistant didn’t recognize a phone number input when prompted.

Google Assistant surfaces to also be able to run diagnostic tests on the camera and Bluetooth connectivity.News also noted that not all the features seem to be operating at the moment, and might just be exclusive to Pixel 2 users in the US that have the dev preview for Android Oreo. This feature looks pretty helpful and would be even better if it wasn’t restricted to Pixel 2 devices, so fingers crossed a wider release is expected of all devices running Oreo.
