Girl Scouts Combat Cybercrime with New Cybersecurity Badge

by Unallocated Author

For the very first time in the history of Girl Scouts, millions of them are taking on hacking and other cyber-security concerns as they work and struggle towards earning newly introduced badges of cyber-security, nationwide. Girl Scouts from the USA joined hands with the security company, Palo Alto Networks to establish such a syllabus that gives education to young girls about the basic study of computer networks, cyber-security, and online safety.

Sylvia Acevedo, CEO of GSUSA, stated that the program was created on the demand of girls themselves and she also said that these girls have a keen interest in getting knowledge about protecting their online identity, keep themselves from getting hacked and keeping their family networks from getting g breached.

Girl Scouts from the USA have been showing a remarkable interest and progress in the fields of science, technology, mathematics, and engineering (STEM) lately. The STEM is established to be a fun activity, but it also desires to inculcate a sense of career-orientation in these young girls towards these fields.

Stating the importance of cyber-security, Acevedo said that it is something of prime importance when our financial, voting and defense systems are concerned, and we must have our rising generation, irrespective of the gender, prepared for the challenges that they might face in the cyber world in the future. Acevedo is of the view that by introducing such skills to young girls they would be made well-equipped to grow up to challenge the under-representation of females in these fields and will give rise to a better culture. They will be skilled enough to prove that they deserve an equal representation even in the fields which are presently considered male-dominant.
Besides, in an era like this, everyone regardless of the gender, should be prepared to combat all the cyber-security issues he might encounter in the future.
