A few days ago, NIS, which is a popular video game publisher for the Playstation Network got hacked. This is not the first time that a store related to Playstation got hacked, but this is among the biggest such hacks of recent times as it affected many online store operating in the US.
The news was confirmed by the company itself as it addressed customers via an email asking for their support to fight back the hacker. The company also posted a tweet confirming the same.
Why Was NIS Online Store Hacked?
Further investigations revealed that the hackers stole valuable customer information when a customer attempted to make a purchase through the store.
The software used for the hack was re-directing customers to a third party page where essential information of the customers was being stolen which included addresses, names, credit card details, paypal login information etc.
Who Is Affected?
Upon digging into the case, it was found that the malicious program was placed at the Checkout Page from Jan 23rd 2018 to 26th February 2018. People who have used online transactioning between these period are more likely to be affected.
The Bottomline
Upon discovering the hack, NIS took their online stores down. A few days later, they’ve patched up the problem and are offering $5 discount to customers who were affected by the issue.
