MoviePass will track your location even after you leave the theater

MoviePass have decided to treat their customers as ‘products’  the CEO of the company is openly admitting that their application tracks the location of its users. When Lowe said “DATA IS THE NEW OIL”, he really meant it. Most of the companies today are driven by data.

Lowe continued stating that “We get an enormous amount of information and we actually watch how you drive from home to the movies and where will you go afterwards”

MoviePass is planning to make a revenue stream by using the data collected from the users as they will target the consumers with specific ads based on their location.

The company’s main plan is to “Create a Good Night at the Movies” by giving you a deal on the dinner after you left the movies and for that, they need the location data of the customers.

Let’s Hope that MoviePass explains why they collect the data and what do they use it for, A representative from the MoviePass said:

We are exploring utilizing location-based marketing as a way to help enhance the overall experience by creating more opportunities for our subscribers to enjoy all the various elements of a good movie night. We will not be selling the data that we gather. Rather, we will use it to better inform how to market potential customer benefits including discounts on transportation, coupons for nearby restaurants, and other similar opportunities.
