Women in Cybersecurity Conference” (WiCyS) in Chicago

The “Women in Cybersecurity Conference” (WiCyS) will take place in Chicago on the 23rd and 25th of March 2018. HALOCK is a proud sponsor of this event which holds great importance. WiCyS is basically a community in which the women in the field of cyber-security can encourage, support and promote themselves individually and the entire field on a larger level. This serves the purpose of empowering the cyber-security world. WiCyS was established in the year 2013 by the help and support from a grant provided by the National Science Foundation.

The primary mission of WiCyS is to elevate the number of women in the cyber-security field. According to the Security Workforce Study conducted in 2017 (sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers), women are appointed on only 11% of the total jobs in the cyber-security industry around the world.
This conference in Chicago is just one of the many ways through WiCyS tries to inspire, educate and recruit female professional in this particular field.

These efforts not only benefit women but everyone. According to a study by ESG research in the year 2016, 46% of organizations claim to have a very “problematic shortage” of cyber-security skills. In fact, in the year 2015, there were around 209,000 vacancies yet no one to apply for them, in the United States alone.
One of the women in the attendance of this year’s conference will be Viviana Wesley from the HALOCK Security Labs. Mrs. Wesley is very excited about attending the conference, and she hopes to take benefit from these networking opportunities.
HALOCK welcomes all the attendees and all the speakers of the conference wholeheartedly and hopes that it will help to motivate the women enough to make them opt for a cyber-security career.
This can be realized only if they are educated about this field and given its primary knowledge at a basic level.
