A John McAfee-Backed ICO Exposed Thousands of Peoples Documents Due to Security Blunder

What happened?

After the discovery of an unsecured Mongo database it became clear that a huge amount of sensitive data that belonged to thousands of investors in Bezop cryptocurrency was left wide open to the public, some of the data included photocopies of their driver’s licenses and passports, according to a report from Kromtech Security.

What does it have to do with John Mcafee?

McAfee has previously been known to promote ICO’s, sometimes charging $105,000 to promote on his Twitter account which has around 800K followers.

“I have become an advisor to bezop.io,” McAfee wrote in a testimonial featured on Bezop’s website. “I recommended them recently and, as an early investor in their ICO, I want to make sure they succeed in implementation.”

So what happened to their implementation

It would appear that leaving a Mongo database completely unsecured will be a huge blunder to their integrity.

Kromtech, the people who uncovered the information said:

“It does not seem to be a very good start for a company such as this to place personal information of anyone on the Internet and open to the public, especially it’s early investors,” They then went on to say “In fact, it’s a little difficult to grasp how it could happen, even if by mistake,” Kromtech added. “Given the changes to MongoDB, it would have to have been deliberately configured to be public, a configuration which should not even be risked internally.”
