Employees of Google Still Troubled Over AI Military Contract

The US Military’s commanders have assembled near Google headquarters at Silicon Valley outpost where the company has set up an advisory board to counsel the military about the applications of AI in the defence. The former boss of Google Eric Schmidt proposed the same strategy in standoffs with China in the upcoming 20 years. The Defense Department hired the Google Cloud Team to work on the Project Maven to enhance its surveillance drone with the ability to help the Machines to think and watch, A deal which could generate Google Millions of dollars in revenue.

Many employees have a liberal sensibility, which caused almost 4000 Google employees to sign a letter telling Google’s CEO to stop the Project Maven contract and also terminate all the work relating the business to war. The petition highlights Google’s history of avoiding military work and its famous motto “Don’t Be Evil”. The Alphabet’s AI research team has separated itself from the project. A deal with the US administration will lead to the development of autonomous killing machines more than a dozen of Google’s staff have already resigned because of the company’s continued involvement in Project Maven.

According to market research, Google is one of the companies currently in the race for Pentagon’s Cloud Contract which could make the company worth around $10 Billion. The company is currently under a lot of pressure to compete with many big name cloud providers.
