Liberty Group Regains Control On Its System After It Refused To Pay Hackers

After facing a massive data breach last week, Liberty Group has now managed to subdue the cyber attack. It has regained control over its systems and has confirmed no financial losses to its customers. Furthermore, Liberty refused to pay any ransom to the hackers while its IT security team worked to correct the matter.

Liberty Refuses To Pay ‘Compensation’ As Demanded By The Hackers

On Saturday, Liberty put up a notice on its website informing about some unauthorized access to its IT infrastructure. They then communicated the same to their customers through SMS messages. As stated in their notice, the hackers demanded compensation for the seized data, which clearly pointed towards a ransomware attack. However, Liberty refuses to pay any ransom to the hackers as stated in the updated notice on their website.

Yesterday, Liberty’s CEO, David Munro, clearly mentioned at the conference that they will pay no money to the hackers and that they have advanced in their investigations.

“We’ve engaged with the external parties to determine their intentions and we made no concessions in the face of this attempted extortion. We’re at an advanced stage of investigating the extent of the data breach.”

Liberty’s CEO Confirms No Financial Losses Due To Data Breach

Initially, the Liberty officials only suspected a possible data breach that they then later confirmed. However, they quickly began investigations on the matter, and their IT security team worked efficiently to ensure the company regained control over its system. Now, the firm has confirmed that the breached data does not result in any financial losses to Liberty’s customers.

“There’s no evidence that there’s any financial loss for any of our customers. So all of our policies and transactions remain in force. We’ve gone to extreme lengths to protect our IT infrastructure to ensure that our customers’ data is protected,” says David Munro. “If we find customers are affected, we will contact them directly,” he adds.

Explaining further about the incident, he informed that the attack took place on Thursday, after which the company had to decide about whether and how to inform the customers about this. According to the CEO, this was an incident ‘out of the blue’ for which nobody could prepare specifically. However, their investigations continue over the matter, and they are employing all possible measures to ensure client safety. For now, customers do not have to take any further action.
