Samsung Messages App Bug: Sends Photos To Random Contacts

A flaw in the latest version of the Samsung messaging app which comes pre-installed in the phone as part of the suite of applications is sending random pictures to the contacts of the user.

The issue is so far only affecting the Samsung Galaxy S9, S9 Plus and Note 8 and the users who have updated to the latest version of the application have been facing this issue. The users would be unaware that their phones are sending out the images as they are not being seen in the sent messages. The bug was only discovered when the receiver has answered back on one of these messages and the images have been picked randomly from the user’s gallery.

While some users reported that they have seen only normal photos while others have seen emojis from different sources in the phone’s storage.

This issue is not limited to a single mobile carrier, every mobile carrier has been affected by the same problem. The company has recommended the users not to update the app to the latest version of the software until Samsung fixes the issue and for the users those who have already updated the app they may need to check the carrier logs to see if the phone has sent any messages and they can also disable the app’s ability to send messages by removing the permission to the application.

This can be done by going to Settings-> Apps -> Samsung Messages -> Permissions -> Storage.

The company told that it has been aware of the problem and their developers are currently working on a fix. Once its done the company will roll out a new version of the software.
