Dark Web Service Provider Was Hacked – 6500 Sites Affected

With over a billion websites on the internet, there is an uninterrupted increase in those striving to set a global footprint. In doing so, there is a constant tug-of-war between the lawmakers and the law-breakers. In this eternal battle, Daniel’s hosting, a leading Dark web hosting service provider’s server was hacked, bringing down over 6,500 websites.

What is Dark Web Hosting?

The dark web hosting service providers let anyone host a website without revealing their identity, and its clients are not necessarily always involved in legitimate activities.

These websites are not indexed, so the regular search engines like Google and Bing cannot crawl into these sites. Nonetheless, certain search engines exist in the world of Dark Web, but to find them you either need to be an outlaw or with a Law Enforcement agency.

Besides search engines, even the regular browsers such as chrome and explorer are of no use in this part of the virtual world. To get to these sites, one needs to go through a browser called Tor.

Did the CIA Hack it?

Although the dark web hosting services continue to exist, this part of the virtual world is always in a mess. It is not uncommon for drug peddlers, blackmailers, arms dealers, and other questionable natured sites to use the dark web hosting. Creepy as it sounds, it would not be surprising to hear about a law enforcement agency’s involvement in this matter.

Apparently, according to the business model of Daniel’s hosting, the data lost cannot be recovered for any of these 6,500 websites as they do not maintain any backups.

In the meantime, Daniel Winzen, the man behind Daniel’s hosting reportedly confirmed this news and has stated that the incident took place between 10:00 PM and 11:00 PM UTC, on November 15, 2018. He further added that he is in the middle of figuring out the vulnerability and may then bring back his services.

A virtual private network is one of the best ways for people to protect their privacy online, as well as remain anonymous if they so choose. What makes it so great is the fact that using a VPN for dark web does not really slow down or change your internet connection speed at all. All in all, VPNs are an essential tool for anyone who values their privacy and security online.
