ExpressVPN is one of the leading VPN services with a demonstrated history of keeping its users secure online. It now becomes a part of the Israeli-based firm Kape Technologies that acquired ExpressVPN in a huge deal.
Kape Technologies Acquired ExpressVPN
Reportedly, Kape Technologies has acquired the popular VPN service ExpressVPN in its latest deal. This marks one of the largest acquisitions settling for $936 million.
ExpressVPN isn’t a new name for most internet users with the slightest interest in VPNs. Apart from being a robust VPN service, the firm is known for its innovative technologies aimed at users’ privacy. Some noteworthy mentions include its TrustedServer technology and the Lightway Protocol. Perhaps, these innovations are what triggered Kape for one of its costliest deals yet.
Announcing the acquisition via a press release, Ido Erlichman, CEO, Kape Technologies, stated,
We’ve admired the ExpressVPN team’s relentless pursuit of excellence and innovation and are excited to welcome them to Kape.
With ExpressVPN to join the Kape family of world-leading privacy and security brands—together, we will have the vision, talent, and resources to take the industry to the next level.
ExpressVPN To Continue Operating Independently
This isn’t Kape’s first VPN acquisition, rather an extension of previous such moves. Earlier, Kape Technologies took over other prominent VPNs such as CyberGhost VPN in 2017, ZenMate VPN in 2018, and Private Internet Access (PIA) VPN in 2019.
However, given the company’s shady history for adware distribution, these back-to-back acquisitions seemed more of an attempt from the firm to detach itself from such previous practices.
Certainly, the firm looks somewhat successful in this strategy as it allows all these VPN services to operate independently. It has announced the same for ExpressVPN – an audited no-logs VPN – too. ExpressVPN has also confirmed the same in its blog post. As stated,
ExpressVPN will remain a separate service from other Kape brands, and everything you’ve come to know and love about ExpressVPN will only continue to improve: our award-winning speed and reliability, premium global server network and bandwidth, 24/7 live chat, BVI jurisdiction, policy of not collecting activity or connection logs, independent third-party audits, and more.
So, perhaps, users might not have to worry about any change of policies from their favorite VPN service. Also, ExpressVPN has acknowledged the privacy practices of Kape Technologies, confirming the deal as a productive one for both the two businesses and the VPN consumers.
