Announcing the move via a recent post, Microsoft staff elaborated on the “Mobile Network Protection” feature rolling out in the Microsoft Defender for Endpoint.

We are delighted to announce that users can now benefit from this new feature on both Android and iOS platforms with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint.

According to Microsoft, this feature has become much-needed for mobile users given the severity of attacks via networks. Such threats are particularly dangerous for networks in various organizations, more specifically, in the recent work-from-home and hybrid working methods.

As the world continues to make sense of the digital transformation, networks are becoming increasingly complex and provide a unique avenue for nefarious activity if left unattended.

Thus, the “Mobile Network Protection” feature will help organizations prevent such attacks and help keep their employees and data safe.

Precisely, the benefits this new feature will bring include,

  • Preventing WiFi-related risks and pineapple attacks.
  • Notifying users upon detecting WiFi-related threats.
  • Securing connected networks.
  • Generating alerts and suggesting remedial options upon detecting a suspicious network.
  • Generating notifications upon detecting an open network.

This new feature will be available on Microsoft Defender for Endpoint iOS and Android apps alike. Users can easily enable this feature via the app following admin controls. Microsoft has also shared detailed configuration instructions in separate documents for iOS and Android users.

Besides, they also urge Android users to enable location access to let the feature work at its best. The tech giant has confirmed collecting no location data from users through this feature. In addition, Microsoft also seeks feedback from users trying this feature for further improvements.
