Many curious users clicked on the link, but stopped when the page asked them to “Share” first. A website has confirmed this bait as a scam that “exploits celebrity suicide.”
According to Symantec, this fake Facebook post, which you may see on your walls shared by your Facebook friends, was created by scammers looking to profit on the actor’s death. The bogus post claims to be a Goodbye video of Robin Williams making his last phone call before committing suicide earlier last week.
Through this scam, users are asked to take a survey before “watching” the video. The survey responses earn for the scammers some affiliate revenue, among others.
