ReactOS - FREE alternatives to windows

Many people feel the need to use Torrents to pirate software that would normally be paid for, however by doing this torrent users are putting themselves at risk to all kinds of Trojan related Malware. However there are alternatives to pirating software and that is to look further into the fabulous world of open source!.

There are many alternatives to your favourite paid products that work just as well (if not better in my opinion).

A number of people like to pirate Windows software, this is probably the best way to end up being unwittingly part of someones’ Botnet. The obvious alternative here is Linux, Debian is a personal favourite of mine however for those wishing to make a graceful transition from Windows to Linux there are a few options for you.

Zorin OS

Zorin OS - FREE alternatives to windows

Zorin OS is a multi-functional operating system designed  for newcomers to Linux. It is based on Ubuntu which I am not normally a fan of, however I do love the whole look of it and how close to Windows it looks and feels!.

It is still possible to run Microsoft Windows programs in Zorin OS using WINE and PlayOnLinux

Thanks to Zorin OS’s immunity to Windows viruses you will never have to worry about any of that nasty malware. And when a potential security threat arises, software updates usually arrive in a matter of hours.

You can see more information about Zorin OS and download it at the link here

There many other Linux distributions that you can try out such as Xubuntu, Linux Mint, Ubuntu or Debian.

If you want to try something a bit more experimental then there is an interesting project called ReactOS.

ReactOS

Please note that this OS is still in Alpha stage so is not advised to be used as your primary OS just yet. Let’s see what happens though.

ReactOS is a completely FREE open source operating system based on the best design principles found in the Windows NT architecture (Windows versions such as Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Server 2012 are built on Windows NT architecture). The Operating system has been Written completely from scratch, ReactOS is not a Linux based system, and shares no UNIX related architecture.

The main goal of the ReactOS project is to provide an operating system which is compatible with Windows. This will allow your Windows applications and drivers to run as they would on your Windows system. Additionally, the look and feel of the Windows operating system is used, such that people accustomed to the familiar user interface of Windows would find using ReactOS straightforward. The ultimate goal of ReactOS is to allow you to use it as alternative to Windows without the need to change software you are used to.
