Now Instagram support high-resolution images at 1080 x 1080 pixels maximum and 640 x 640 pixels minimum.
According to The Verge, “The app is not yet displaying images at the higher-resolution as such by Instagram, but the users can find at the source code on Instagram’s web view which reveals that new photos uploaded to it are being saved in 1080px resolution.”
We’re rolling out 1080×1080 uploads (and higher-quality viewing) for IG on iOS and Android. Let me know if feed looks a bit sharper today 🙂

Both Android and iOS users of Instagram can upload high-resolution images
According to an Instagram spokesperson “We can confirm that we are gradually rolling out 1080 on both iOS and Android. Most people should have it,”
You can find high-resolution images only via web browser by view-source of the page and hit Ctrl/Cmd+F “Find dialog” popups at left top, type “.jpg” to get the larger version of the image.
