Investigation Is Underway After Aberdeen City Council’s Website Hacked

An investigation is underway after Aberdeen City Council’s website was taken over by hackers last night.

An anonymous group, identifying themselves a Team System Dz, had control of the webpage between 7.20pm and 10pm.

Users visiting site were confronted with the following message:

No reason was given for the hack.

The city council has given assurances that no personal data of residents is held on the website.

An Aberdeen City Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of a security issue which affected the homepage of our website this evening (28 January) between 19.20 and 10pm and are working urgently to investigate the incident.
“The website is currently back online and we would like to assure residents that no personal data is held on the Aberdeen City Council website.”
