Google game teaches kids about safety and security

Google has started a new program called Be Internet Awesome, to help kids be safe, confident explorers of the online world. Be Internet Awesome teaches kids the fundamentals of digital citizenship and safety so they can explore the online world with confidence.

The program includes the following:
– An online video game called Interland
– A classroom curriculum
– A YouTube video series

Kids can play their way to being Internet Awesome with Interland, an online adventure that puts the key lessons of digital safety into hands-on practice with four challenging games: how to chose which information to share to public, how to chose safe passwords, how to deal with online bullies, how to detect scams. The game can be played on any browser (not only Chrome!)

The classroom curriculum involves lesson plans for educators to teach and materials for exercises to do with the children.

The videos are proposed to make talking about online safety fun and available to enable parents to discuss with their children about online safety.

“Personal privacy and security are just as important online as they are offline. Safeguarding valuable information helps kids avoid damaging their devices, reputations, and relationships.”

“We worked with experts in digital safety to ensure that every element of the program addresses what families and educators need to know.”
