Mozilla Firefox will be 64-Bit by default on Windows 10

Mozilla wants its users to promptly install a more reliable version of Firefox, one that also breaks a whole lot less. How much less? In their tests so far, 64-bit Firefox decreased crashes by 39% on computers with 4GB of RAM or more

Here’s one key point to know: 64-bit apps can obtain more memory and are less prone to crash than 32-bit applications. Plus, with the increase from 32 to 64 bits, a safety feature called Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) serves greater to protect you from attackers.

MacOS and Linux users don’t have to worry not. You now enjoy a Firefox that’s optimized for 64-bit.

If you’re working on 64-bit Windows, you have two choices to get your computer fastened up with this improved Firefox experience:

  1. You can download Firefox immediately and reinstall, which will automatically install Firefox 64-bit; or
  2. You can wait. We plan to migrate the remaining 64-bit Windows users to a 64-bit version of Firefox with a later release. If you fancy staying with 32-bit Firefox later the 64-bit migration, you can just download and rerun the Firefox 32-bit installer from the Firefox programs and languages download page.
