The Qatar administration also told internet users that they would be reviewing the issue though no decision or official comment on the blocks themselves have reported. For a while, users were uncertain whether Skype or the ISPs at the direction of the government were the sources of the block though it is immediately 100% crystal clear.
The official support still hasn’t come from the management of these tyrannical countries, or their ISPs; instead, the official news is from Microsoft Skype itself. In the Skype FAQ, Microsoft states for all to see:
It has been drawn to our attention that our website and settings have been blocked by the ISPs in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. That expects you won’t be able to use Skype in the United Arab Emirates or Qatar.
Unfortunately, there is very little Skype can do about this place. The best course of development would be for you to speak to your ISP and ask why they are pressing Skype and request that they unblock our site and services.
While you wait on your question that Qatar unblocks Skype’s site and Internet Services, there is a technology to use in the meantime that provides you to access Skype’s services and site and legally. Some VoIP apps, before-mentioned as Viber and Signal, have performed circumvention directly into their app and an update is all that’s required to connect.
“VoIP is a technology for the offering of voice services using current internet infrastructure and services. There are no laws or rules that forbid the use of such technology within the State of Qatar.”
“The Telecommunications Law 34 of 2006 does, though, make it illegal for any body to provide telecommunications duties to the public for a direct or indirect fee without a permit issued by ictQATAR for that idea. Currently, the only two entities authorized by ictQATAR to provide such voice assistance to the public in Qatar are Qatar Telecom (QTel) Q.S.C. and Vodafone Qatar Q.S.C.”
