As if the UK hasn’t had enough (drug) problems to deal with, a 19 year old decided to make things much worse. The teen was arrested for allegedly ordering at least a thousand euros worth of drugs using an unnamed Dark Web marketplace. Thomas Allen, the criminal in question, used the popular cryptocurrency Bitcoin to make his purchase of the illegal drugs, which helped lead authorities to arrest him.
Customs officers initially intercepted a package Allen had purchased via the Dark Web, thus igniting an investigation into his illegal dealings. Customs were able to identify and thwart the delivery of a package containing 250 pills of ecstasy. It is worth noting that authorities noticed that the drugs contained within the package were less pure than what the suspect had ordered.
Customs immediately brought the package to the attention of local authorities in Yorkshire. Yorkshire authorities tracked down the suspect and performed a search on his person as well as his home. They were able to discover Allen’s phone and the messages it contained regarding to the numerous customers he was distributing the drugs to.
The judge handling the case sees no reason to give Allen any leniency on the charges and has since sentenced him to 36 months in jail. Allen’s lawyer tried to argue that he didn’t think ecstasy was a class A drug, thinking instead that it was a class B drug. This, in itself, would have resulted in a slightly lesser type of charge but the judge wasn’t hearing it.
Thomas Allen was then officially charged and convicted of buying and distributing the class A drug. His 36 month sentence is well deserved and hopefully teaches him a lesson in the error of his ways.
