A 19 year old South Dakota man, Trevor Harden, was arrested and eventually plead guilty to purchasing a massive amount of fentanyl pills via the Dark Web. After authorities obtained a search warrant for Harden’s home, 20,000 fentanyl pills were found to be in his possession. Police were completely taken aback by the amount and have stated they believe it is the largest amount found on one person in their state’s history.
Harden is facing certain prison time for his crimes, up to 20 years, and will also be fined a whopping one million dollars. Authorities have also discovered that Harden didn’t act alone. Another man, Tyler Woodraska, was also found to be involved in the Dark Web drug buying scheme and has also been arrested.
However, Woodraska is not following Harden’s example and has chosen to plead not guilty instead. Woodraska will eventually have his day in court for a trial by jury and faces a similar punishment if found guilty.
The two conspired together to order the fentanyl on a Dark Web marketplace but authorities were one step ahead of them. Police intercepted the package and decided to set up a sting operation where they waited for them to come pick up the package at the post office.
While police stayed hidden, Woodraska arrived at the post office in order to receive the package. He was given the package containing the fentanyl and was immediately arrested and charged as soon as he walked out of the building.
Authorities are satisfied with the arrests and happy about the fact that many lives were saved in the process. It is highly doubtful that Woodraska will be able to provide any kind of meaningful defense and will likely also face time in prison. In conclusion, it’s clear that the war on drugs is not going anywhere. When will things start changing?
