According to reports, Google blocked nearly 700,000 apps in 2017, a large number of which were said to be malicious. The giant recently published a blog highlighting how it fights such apps and what it is doing to keep the Play Store safe.
However, the numbers suggest that the company has not been very successful in reducing such instances, as the number of apps blocked in 2017 for this reason is 70% higher than the number of apps blocked in the last year for the same reason.
While this is an alarming number, the good thing is that 99% of these malicious Android applications were already identified and blocked before anyone could install them.
Android is a huge market with over 2.6 million apps out there. It is quite understandable why it becomes difficult for Google to be able to manage all that, but the IT giant is doing its best.
According to the newest statement, the company has installed a new system to find malicious apps, and was able to take down 100,000 infected apps within the first month of 2018.
Some major reasons why Google deleted apps are:
- Copied Apps
- Inappropriate Content
- Potentially Harmful Applications (PHAs)
Many experts believe that hackers can use these apps to hack into a system and with hacking incidents on a rise, the need to be careful is now higher than ever.
Users should only install trusted apps, that too after careful reading and research.
