Elon Musk has removed his company’s Facebook Pages because of a challenge made by a Twitter user (@serdarsprofile). The Facebook pages of SpaceX and Tesla are now inactive with each having up to 2.6 Million followers.
After someone revealed a screengrab of the SpaceX Facebook page, he wrote on Twitter that it was the first time he had seen it and that it would “be gone soon.” Someone then advised him to delete Tesla’s Facebook page, with Musk responding that it “looks lame anyway.” And just for good measure, it seems that the Facebook page for Tesla-owned Solar City has disappeared as well.
Elon Musk apparently wasn’t aware that his companies SpaceX and Tesla had a Facebook page. The CEO of SpaceX and Tesla have responded to a comment on Twitter on where he was asked to comment on the SpaceX, Tesla and Elon Musk official pages in aid of the #deletefacebook movement.
He admitted that he didn’t know one existed, and then catching up with promises that he would indeed take them down. From 12:10 PM ET SpaceX’s Facebook page is inactive. That’s a quick turnaround since Musk seems only to have found out these pages existed about 20 minutes prior to his taking them all offline.
The Twitter hashtag #DeleteFacebook arrives on the heels of last weekend’s release that data company Cambridge Analytica obtained access to millions of Facebook users’ data and supposedly used it to try to change the 2016 US presidential race in favour of Donald Trump. A US House delegation on Friday urged Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to individually testify at an upcoming hearing about Facebook’s plans for user data. That followed a Thursday explanation from Zuckerberg about the data mishap.
Social Media Management Experts are thinking that this would affect the presence of Tesla and SpaceX in Social Media.
