EA Website Glitch Leaked Data Of Hundreds Of FIFA 20 Registered Gamers

EA has once again made it to the news owing to a security incident. However this time, it wasn’t a result of any cyberattack, rather a site error. As revealed, the EA website suffered a glitch that leaked data of registered players.

EA Website Glitch Leaked Gamers’ Data

Recently, the Gaming firm Electronic Arts (or EA) suffered a blunder. The official EA website, owing to a technical glitch, exposed details of registered gamers.

The matter first surfaced online when new visitors trying to register themselves on the website faced a strange issue. On the registration page of the EA SPORTS FIFA 20 Global Series, it was possible to see data of previously registered players.

EA launched this website on October 3, 2019. Shortly after its launch, players signing up on the site began witnessing this issue. During registration, they could see the details of players who registered themselves on the site earlier.

Allegedly, the leaked details included personal information as well, such as email addresses, Player ID, country of residence and birthday.

Here is what one such visitor shared in his tweet.

EA Rectified The Error

Soon after numerous complaints from users, EA finally acknowledged the glitch. They reportedly took down the newly created site to prevent further problems.

Later on, they shared a detailed statement regarding the glitch. As revealed, the website erroneously exposed data of registered players to the incoming visitors. The issue affected around 1600 players.

They further assured rectification of the glitch to prevent it from occurring again in the future. As mentioned in their statement,

We were able to root cause the issue and implement a fix to be clear that information is protected. We’re confident that players will not see the same issue going forward.

Furthermore, they are also contacting all the players affected by this data leakage.

For now, they have closed the registration page. Yet, they pledge to re-open it in the coming days.

Here we share the official EA statement for our readers.

A few months ago, EA patched multiple security vulnerabilities in EA Origin that could potentially affect 300 million players.
