Meta ‘Redesigns’ Privacy Policy Elaborating On ‘Use Of Information’

The tech giant Meta has modified its privacy policy, clarifying how they collect and use customers’ data. The firm has also made its privacy policy page more appealing and visually interactive for better understanding.

Meta Privacy Policy Updates

Elaborating more in a separate blog post, Michel Protti, Chief Privacy Officer, Product at Meta, stated the latest Privacy Policy updates.

Meta (formerly ‘Facebook’) has primarily been accused of collecting and monetizing users’ data unethically. The main reason behind this impression was the lack of transparency about how the company collects users’ data, protects it, and shares it with third parties. However, the company seems to be shifting its direction, bringing more transparency through major policy updates.

Meta’s new Privacy Policy (formerly ‘Data Policy’) page has become visually discernible with text blocks and explainer videos. Moreover, the firm has also reworded its Privacy Policy so that users can better understand it.

Nonetheless, these changes typically revolve around visual updates and do not include any policy changes. According to Protti, they “still do not sell” users’ data.

While the text looks different in many places, Meta is not collecting, using or sharing your data in new ways based on this policy update and we still do not sell your information.

In addition, Meta has also updated its Terms of Service, elaborating on the use of Meta platforms, users’ expectations, IP rights, and the happenings following content deletion. Elaborating it, the post reads,

These expectations include the rights and obligations described in our Community Standards, for example when we may disable or terminate accounts that violate our Terms or Community Standards or others’ intellectual property rights or other laws.

These updates apply to Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger only. They do not cover WhatsApp, Messenger Kids, and other platforms as they have their own privacy policies.

Meta has started sending notifications to users, encouraging them to read the Privacy Policy for a better understanding, which will come into effect on July 26, 2022.
