VPN for Streaming – Do You Need One?

by Mic Johnson

When it comes to streaming, it is often suggested that you should use a VPN. But what if you’re not sure that you really need to use one? It’s simple: you can just check if you need a VPN for streaming and once you realize you do (we’ll explain why) just go and get it!

Why use a VPN for streaming?

VPN is most commonly used across the globe to gain access to geo-blocked content. Naturally, if you’re streaming any type of content, you want to ensure that you have complete access and that no piece of it is blocked for you, for whatever reason. In order to make this possible, VPNs make it seem like you’re accessing geo-blocked content, for instance, from the location that’s approved. So, if you use a VPN when streaming content, it will make it appear as though your internet traffic is coming from a suitably located remote server, and not your current location.

VPNs reduce the chances of buffering

Since streaming can take up a lot of bandwidth, you may sometimes end up experiencing insane buffering when trying to view content. Luckily, with the help of a VPN, you can easily overcome this potential nuisance. Since VPNs featuring a high-level of encryption can easily mask your internet activity from your ISP, it will be far less likely that you’ll experience any bandwidth throttling while streaming. Needless to say, this will eliminate any buffering issues you may have been experiencing.

VPNs may decrease your internet speed

Although a VPN can make buffering a thing of the past, it can still sometimes slow down your overall internet speed. This most commonly happens due to the fact that a VPN will send your online traffic to a remote server (as mentioned previously) and this extra step may end up compromising your speed. Luckily, if you choose to go with only the best VPN options out there and your internet speed is decent enough, you most likely won’t come across this issue.

With all of this being said, it becomes quite clear why the answer to the question is – yes, you do need VPN. That is, you need it if you don’t want to come across any restricted or blocked content and don’t really enjoy experiencing endless buffering. So, if improved security, low-to-no bandwidth and unlimited access to various online content sounds appealing to you, go get your hands on a VPN today.

Can you suggest the best free Vpn service out there

I personally wouldn’t recommend a free VPN service since they have to make money, normally in the free case will be via harvesting of data.
