The judge told that the “On Voter 1-Oct” app on the Google Play smartphone app store broke the ruling of Spain’s Constitutional Court, which labeled the referendum illegal.
Google was also secured to block any future applications produced by the Gmail address “[email protected],” which was after the banned app.
The judge said the idea of the app once again showed the “reluctant attitude” of the Catalan government to earlier court rulings to block referendum websites.
“They expect to dodge said blockades with network applications for mobile devices, which, similar to the web pages, only promote and facilitate the holding of the election on October 1,” he said.
According to the Spain Report, Google has understood the court order and barred the app which is now inaccessible from the Spanish territory.
“We remove content from our platforms when we get a court order or when it violates our terms and conditions,” the company said.
The local experts in Catalonia reiterated on Friday that the vote will go ahead as listed on Sunday, despite strong opposition from Madrid.
Spanish experts have been actively working to prevent the vote as thousands of additional police were expanded to the region, with orders to take control of the voting booths.
Earlier this week, the foundation managing the registration of areas ending in .cat was raided by the police.
The .cat Foundation was taken to block websites with information about the election in accordance to a court summons issued serval days earlier.
According to the group, the court order, which saw specified that four .cat domains related to vote to be shut, was “unprecedented and positive in scope.”
Around 140 websites linked to the Catalan referendum were held down in September in accordance with the government orders.
