Photo-taking is exciting and fun, but then you realize that you have dozens of pictures and little space on your iPhone. That’s why it’s imperative to create a backup and not store every image on your device. Thankfully, iCloud is an ideal option for uploading photos, and the process is also very simple! You can buy iCloud storage space from your iPhone and easily set up a way to upload your photos there automatically.
What should you do before uploading photos?
Remove duplicates if possible. Those duplicates will eat up a lot of space, and you could use that to store apps or new pictures. That’s why we highly recommend using an app like Gemini Photos, which can help you find any duplicates. With its help, you can immediately identify duplicates and remove them, while preparing everything for the upload.
Uploading your photos to iCloud
Creating a backup of your images will help, and it will give you a way to ensure that if you do lose the images, they will be there. You can use an external hard drive or SSD to store those. However, if you want to have it readily accessible on your phone, then iCloud is usually the better option to consider here.
- Go to your phone’s Settings, and here you want to choose Photos
- After that, toggle the option iCloud Photos so you can turn it on.
- Now you will be able to choose Optimize iPhone Storage or Download and Keep the Originals.
As the name suggests, Download and Keep the Originals will allow you to download those originals and keep them without any issue. Optimize iPhone Storage on the other hand will just upload photos to the cloud and while you see the photo in your album, it’s just a low-resolution version. The idea here is to try and preserve as much space as you can, something that will come in handy.
Can you upload only specific files to the iCloud library?
Maybe there are times when you just don’t want to upload all the images to iCloud. Some of them might be kept private, and you only want to upload a select few. Thankfully, you can do that. In order to do this, you will have to manually visit iCloud.com and login to the iCloud account. When you go to the Photos tab, you just have to press Upload and then enter the Photo Library.
Now all you have to do is to select the pictures you want to upload. Simply put, you manually have to tap add and choose what you want to upload. That alone is very important because it will allow you to have more control over what images are uploaded. You can still upload everything if you want, but if you need just certain images uploaded, you will need to manually do that.
Plus, if you need to download videos or photos uploaded to iCloud, the process is very simple. You select the videos or photos you want to download from the list. Then press the Download button and they will appear in your default Download directory. It’s a very seamless process, and you can download these as many times as you want.
How much time will it take to save your photos to iCloud?
It can be difficult to know that, because every upload is different. It will vary based on the number of images you want to upload and the speed of your internet connection. That means it can take anything from a few minutes to hours. If you have GB of photos, then obviously the entire process can take quite a bit of time.
It’s very important to ensure that you have a backup for your photos. The last thing you want is for your images to get lost in any way. However, with an iCloud upload you don’t need to worry about that. It’s one of the best ways to ensure that you keep your images safe and ready to access at any time. Plus, since you have 2 different ways to upload, you won’t have to worry about picking the right one that fits your needs!
